After Rome, Libby Maxey (September 2026)
After Rome
Snow peaks the feeder’s dome,
a soft aedicula—
blank pediment,
the plastic curve
its weather-stained entablature.
Birds winging to the edges of the tray,
leaning in to feed, then launching back
shake their little temple
with a worship
innocent of ruins.
